Hydrating Foundations For Winter

JI_BlogPost_FoundationsforWinter_Assets6We’ve talked at length about how the cool winter air and other harsh environmental factors can take a seasonal toll on the skin[1], so how should we change and adapt our makeup routine for the winter months?

Regardless of your skin type and texture, winter’s lack of humidity will seriously deplete your skin’s regular oil levels. For this reason, we need to turn to hydrating, skin-soothing base products that care for and nourish the skin rather than stripping it or clogging it.

How should you be applying your mineral foundation this winter? Here are a few tips to keep your skin looking and feeling juicy, plump and dewy until the humidity kicks back in.

Begin with your base

A great primer will do more than just smooth out your canvas prior to foundation application. The perfect primer will hydrate the skin and deliver lasting skincare benefits while providing a protective layer to defend the skin against harsh environmental elements. Our Smooth Affair Facial Primer and Brightener quenches the skin as well as allows the skin to hold onto its own natural moisture for hydration that lasts all day, plus protection from the winter air.

Choosing the right foundation

We have three favourite skin-loving foundations for winter to ensure all skin types and textures are covered. Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder will offer sheer to medium coverage that diffuses the appearance of pores and redness. For intense hydration and full coverage, opt for the Glow Time Pro BB Cream, while mature skin types can benefit from HydroPure Tinted Serum as a hybrid foundation and treatment serum.

How to get the most from your winter foundation

For a flawless finish every single time, apply your foundation with a soft, medium-density brush. The density of your brush will affect coverage - a densely packed brush will give you a full coverage finish, while a brush with few, fine bristles is better for adding a sheer wash of colour. As its name suggests, our Blending/Contouring Brush is perfect for sculpting the face, but it’s also the perfect brush for blending out your foundation for a flawless finish. Start by blending out the product from the centre of the face, which is generally where you’ll require the most coverage, and blending the product out towards the perimeter of the face. For lasting hydration and to lock your foundation in place, finish your base application with a mist of Pommisst Hydration Spray.
